Inspired by that interplay, Suntory Whisky Toki brings together old and new – the House of Suntory’s proud heritage and its innovative spirit – to create blended Japanese whisky that is both ground-breaking and timeless. Gift

While Suntory Whisky Toki respects tradition, it also challenges whisky convention by rethinking the hierarchy of its components. Suntory blends often use Yamazaki malts as their key component. Inspired by the innovative spirit of the House, fourth Chief Blender Shinji Fukuyo took a fresh approach with Suntory Whisky Toki.

Connoisseur

While Suntory Whisky Toki™ respects tradition, it also challenges whisky convention by rethinking the hierarchy of its components. Suntory blends often use Yamazaki malts as their key component. Inspired by the innovative spirit of the House, fourth Chief Blender Shinji Fukuyo took a fresh approach with Suntory Whisky Toki™. He selected the singular Hakushu American white oak cask malt whisky—with its unique freshness, mellowness and spectacular green apple notes—as one of the blend’s two pillars. To complement that selection, Fukuyo chose Chita heavy-type grain whisky as the blend’s second pillar, adding a clean taste with notes of sweetness and vanilla.

By pairing these seemingly dissimilar but deeply accordant whiskies, Fukuyo’s insight overturned the old relationship between malt and grain and created a blend that is both groundbreaking and timeless.

ABOUT THE DISTILLERY
YAMAZAKI WHERE IT ALL BEGAN IN 1923
Drawn by the purest waters in Japan, Sen no Rikyu, master of the “Way of Tea,” chose to establish his first teahouse in Yamazaki. Those pure waters also called to Suntory’s founder, Shinjiro Torii. In 1923, he began building Japan’s first and oldest whisky distillery at Yamazaki. Situated on the periphery of Kyoto where the Katsura, Uji and Kizu rivers converge, Yamazaki’s unique temperature and humidity ranges create the ideal conditions for cask aging, known as the signature “Suntory Maturation.”

HAKUSHU WHERE INSPIRATION CONTINUES
The Hakushu distillery was founded half a century after Yamazaki by Keizo Saji, inheritor of his father’s vision and drive to innovate. Built within the forests of Mt. Kaikomagatake in the Japanese Southern Alps, Hakushu is one of the highest distilleries in the world. The majestic forest that surrounds the distillery reflects the many expressions of Japanese nature and shelters an abundance of plant varieties.

CHITA THE GRAIN DISTILLERY
Chita was built in 1972 on the seaside of Chita Peninsula to create the highest-quality grain whisky. Chita makes three different types of grain whiskies from corn grain—clean, medium and heavy. They are produced through a continuous multiple-column distillation process and matured in environments that benefit from Japan’s unique nature and climate.
