The Great King Street Artist’s Blend by Compass Box is a rich and rounded whisky made for both demanding single malt drinkers and mixing alike. A blend of almost 50% malt whisky that has been aged in a combination of first-fill; virgin French oak, ex-Bourbon and ex-sherry casks, is married with high-quality single grain whisky from the Scottish Lowland region that has been aged in first-fill ex-bourbon.

Appearance: Straw.
Nose: Plenty of vanilla followed by ripe fruit and spice.
Taste: Rich honeycomb, French vanilla ice cream and green bananas.
Finish: Long and rounded with hints of oak.
Overall: A well-rounded tribute to the artistry of the blenders.

Compass box is known for their extravagant and unorthodox blends, the Great King Street bottling is probably one of their most versatile and approachable expressions. This dram will please both those who prefer their whisky mixed and single malt drinkers.

If the person you’re buying for is a fan of the Compass Box Great King Street Artist’s Blend, you could also try Monkey Shoulder or Nomad Outland Whisky Sherry Finish.

Scotch whisky is a very broad category consisting of various styles, regions and production methods. It is unclear whether Ireland or Scotland was the first to produce whisky but it is likely that the practice became common in both countries concurrently. It is commonly thought that the knowledge of distillation was brought to Scotland (and Ireland) by monks returning from the Mediterranean and the Middle East in around 1000AD.

Compass Box Whisky

Compass Box have created a bit of a storm by literally turning blended whisky on its head. Instead of a high grain to malt barley like you’d expect, Compass Box have a very high malt part. This is how the original blends would have been made.

Water, Yeast, Grain.
