Description

FULL DESCRIPTION
A very accessible malt, similar to the 10-year-old. But the additional years spent in oak before a brief ex-oloroso finishing bring additional levels of depth and complexity to the liquid. Hints of its Island origin become present with light seaside notes. The extra tannins from the oak also dry out the sweetness and help to balance the malt.

TASTING NOTES
Appearance: Cherry oak.
Nose: A seaside forest with hints of dried banana and apricots.
Taste: Candied orange peel and oatcakes with fresh honey.
Finish: Raisins and stewed fruit giving way to woody tannins and tobacco.
Overall: A malt that says one thing on the nose and speaks a completely different language on the pallet. Smooth and approachable, take your time with this one.

Gift

Continues in Jura’s unique style and approach, this is a good whisky for anyone who likes richer and sweeter whiskies and is keen to try out some Island malts. As the Isle of Jura Distillery is the only one on the island, a whisky collection isn’t complete without one of their bottlings, and this is an excellent choice.

RECOMMENDATIONS
If the person you’re buying for is a fan of the Jura Diurachs’ 16, you could also try Cragganmore 12, Highland Park 18 or Glenfarclas 15.

Connoisseur

Scotch whisky is a very broad category consisting of various styles, regions and production methods. It is unclear whether Ireland or Scotland was the first to produce whisky but it is likely that the practice became common in both countries concurrently. It is commonly thought that the knowledge of distillation was brought to Scotland (and Ireland) by monks returning from the Mediterranean and the Middle East in around 1000AD.
