Description

FULL DESCRIPTION
A sweeter fruitier side of the Caol Ila you know and love. Part of Diageo’s Distillers Edition range, Caol Ila have used the casks of the sweet-dessert wine varietal muscatel to finish their whisky in. Similar to a Pedro Ximénez finish, there is plenty of dried fruits, spice and rich sugars.

TASTING NOTES
Appearance: Light mahogany.
Nose: Rich honey and smoke.
Taste: Stewed apples, apricots and a hint of brine.
Finish: Raisins and tobacco smoke with a note of toasted barley.
Overall: An enriched Caol Ila malt with deeper stewed fruit notes, leading to more length and a sweeter pallet.

Gift

If the person you are buying for is both a fan of peat and the fruitier Speyside malts, this is an excellent whisky in that it bridges the gap between the two styles. Also, a good buy for any collector or die-hard Caol Ila fan as it is a limited bottling.

RECOMMENDATIONS
If the person you’re buying for is a fan of the Caol Ila 2002 Distillers Edition, you could also try Highland Park 18 or The Singleton of Dufftown 12.

Connoisseur

Scotch whisky is a very broad category consisting of various styles, regions and production methods. It is unclear whether Ireland or Scotland was the first to produce whisky but it is likely that the practice became common in both countries concurrently. It is commonly thought that the knowledge of distillation was brought to Scotland (and Ireland) by monks returning from the Mediterranean and the Middle East in around 1000AD.
