Since its release, the Bowmore 12 has been welcomed by critics and connoisseurs as a return to a more classic style of the historic distillery. As the oldest distillery on Islay, Bowmore has soft, yet dense and chewy peated character. The 12-year-old is also loaded with tropical fruit sweetness, bringing a new dimension to Islay malts.

Appearance: Rich copper.
Nose: Ripe pineapple, rich smoke and iodine.
Taste: Citrus peels, fatty honey cured salmon and grilled banana.
Finish: Fresh cracked pepper, salted caramel with hints of vanilla.
Overall: There are the typical smoke and brine characters but it has a full mouthfeel with ripe fruit and warming spice.

If you’re the kind of person who likes putting grilled pineapple and bacon on a cheeseburger then this is a whisky you’re sure to appreciate. Bowmore is a brilliant brand to try if you are looking for something slightly different from an Islay malt, with their long history of whisky they have nailed their own unique style.

If the person you’re buying for is a fan of the Bowmore 12, you could also try Talisker 10 or Jura Superstition.

Scotch whisky is a very broad category consisting of various styles, regions and production methods. It is unclear whether Ireland or Scotland was the first to produce whisky but it is likely that the practice became common in both countries concurrently. It is commonly thought that the knowledge of distillation was brought to Scotland (and Ireland) by monks returning from the Mediterranean and the Middle East in around 1000AD.

Bowmore Distillery.

Whisky made on the island of Islay, from one of the oldest distilleries in Scotland.

Billed as the most balanced of all the islay malts, plenty of smokey character offset with tropical fruit.

Water, Malted Barley, Yeast.
