FULL DESCRIPTION
Bernheim Original is made by Heaven Hill and is the only straight wheat American whiskey available. Bernheim is 51% winter wheat, 39% corn and 10% barley malt. A soft, mellow, fruity palate with gentle vanilla notes.
TASTING NOTES
Appearance:Caramel.
Nose: Rich caramel, buttery toffee, citrus, leather and a muddled dark fruit like a mixed berry preserve. There’s a nice touch of spice like cinnamon and nutmeg with light touches of cocoa powder, instant coffee and molasses.
Taste: Caramel, wood, dusty grains, wheat driven sweetness, citrus rind and burnt sugar. It would be tasty right there, but the extra aging on this has created some additional facets of vanilla, cinnamon, nutmeg, a touch of clove and a very light astringency.
Finish: Woody with hints of watery caramel, burned sugar and wheat toast on a long fade.
Overall: The nose is sweet while the palate is earthier and the finish is a nice mix of the two.

Bernheim original 7 year wheat whiskey is a fantastic example of the category
RECOMMENDATIONS
If the person you’re buying for is a fan of the Bernheim or wheated whiskey, why not also consider Weller 12 year old?
Connoisseur
First released in 2005, Bernheim is regarded as being the first whiskey to use winter wheat as the main grain in its mashbill. A straight wheat whiskey, it is made at the namesake Bernheim Distillery in Louisville, Kentucky and aged in Rickhouse Y at Heaven Hill’s Bardstown facility. Bernheim Original Wheat Whiskey truly is well worth the wheat. It is the only straight wheat whiskey distributed nationally. As a straight whiskey, it meets the same criteria as Bourbon or rye—aged a minimum of two years in new, charred oak barrels, distilled at less than 160 proof, and contains no coloring, flavoring or blending agents. As a small batch product, it is made with a dump of 100 barrels or less.
