FULL DESCRIPTION
Laphroaig has been dividing opinions for over 200 years, just a quick visit to their website lets you know this as they openly embrace this fact. The smoke and iodine dominate this whisky as they use plenty of peat to dry their barley. Situated right on the shore, salty sea air permeates the production and ageing process. This all combines to give the whisky its trademark ‘band-aid’ note.

Connoisseur

Well known for its tarry, creosote, peat flavours Laphroaig still malts a portion of its own barley on its own malting floors, as they believe their own kiln contributes more to help impart those characteristics. They take a deeper cut of the still run so they can hold on to more phenols. Mostly aged in ex-Bourbon.

ABOUT THE DISTILLERY
Laphroaig means ‘hollow by the bay’. Established in 1815, it is arguably the most recognisable of all the Islay distilleries. Famous for its rich, peaty smoke flavour. Unusual for a distillery it has an uneven amount of stills, three wash stills and four spirit stills.
