FULL DESCRIPTION
Don José Valera Blanco built the first sugar mill in Panama in 1908, but it didn’t take long for his sons to convince him to develop it into a distillery. Today, the third generation still grows and cultivates all of their own sugar cane, allowing them to keep tight control over the whole production ensuring consistently high quality. The 7-year-old expression is comprised of a carefully curated selection of barrels under the nurturing eye of the Master Blender.

TASTING NOTES
Appearance: Rich Gold.
Nose: Hints of tobacco, dried fruit and caramel.
Taste: Candied fruit, rich toffees and smooth caramels.
Finish: Charred oak and sweet sherry notes.
Overall: Smooth and sweetly aged rum.

Rum is a spirit made exclusively by fermenting sugarcane or its bi-products, these being molasses and sugarcane juice. There are no real rules when it comes to rum production making it a very large and varied category. The process of making this spirit is a combination of fermentation and distillation.

ABOUT THE DISTILLERY
The history of Varela Hermanos dates back to 1908 when Don José Valera Blanco began growing and milling sugar cane. It wasn’t until 1936 that the family, following the wishes of Don Blanco’s sons, started distilling rum. Ron Abuelo Rums are special as they come from one of the very few rum distilleries in Panama to grow their own sugar cane and employ a large portion of the population in Pese. Today, the distillery practices sustainability, with many of the by-products of making the rum going back in to fuel machinery.

Shop delivery: We will always try our best to dispatch as soon as possible, please be advised that some items may take up to 5 working days.

Voucher delivery: As soon as we receive a voucher order they’re sent out via first class post. Depending on how busy Royal Mail is, you’ll usually receive your physical vouchers in 2-3 working days.
