Sophya
In the middle of summer, TT Live Sessions played host to the incredible young talent Sophya. Accompanied by the masterful Kian Cardenas–back for his second consecutive Live Session after playing with Daniella Wizard at last month’s event–Portuguese born, London based Sophya treated the crowd to an intimate session of jazz-infused vocals and pared back instrumentals.
The duo started things off with a beautiful cover of Hozier’s Nina Cried Power, playing with the arrangement and giving new emphasis to the song’s themes of bravery, individuality and the struggle for civil rights.
Sophya followed up this powerful cover with a rendition of her newest single Butterflies, this sounded fantastic in acoustic form, originally recorded with a full horn-section, the limited space of the Cellar Bar necessitated the stripped down instrumentation but Sophya and Kian’s ability to adapt their style and sound to the surroundings made for a unique and striking version of the song.

Sophya took the time between each track to introduce the ideas and inspiration behind them and seemed to grow more comfortable with the close quarters and more familiar with the audience at every moment.
Sophya is still at the early stages of what promises to be an illustrious career, her skill and ease as a performer are undeniable and it was a pleasure to host her at TT Liquor.

Our music philosophy, in one word, is “SOULFUL.” It’s a journey through Disco, Soul, Hip-Hop, Funk and everything in between coming in two forms; intimate, stripped-back live sessions, featuring new performers on the first Tuesday of every month, and resident DJs and guest headliners taking care of the soundtrack throughout the building the rest of the time.
