Description

FULL DESCRIPTION
The only age-statement from the historic Mitchell & Sons range, Yellow Spot is special in that it contains whiskey that has been matured for a full 12 year period in three oak cask types; ex-bourbon barrels, ex-sherry butts, and ex-Malaga wine casks. The Malaga wine casks bring added richness and decadence to the whiskey which is balanced out with dry spice from the sherry butts and the slightly increased alcohol volume.

Appearance: Deep gold.
Nose: Black peppercorns, clove and honey.
Taste: Baking spices, red apples, custard and toffee.
Finish: Coffee and chocolate leading to notes of wine and raisins.
Overall: Full flavoured with plenty of spice and orchard fruit character.

Gift

A welcomed return in 2010 after this particular expression from the Mitchells family hadn’t been bottled in 50 years. Well worth the cash if you are looking for a new Irish whiskey for your collection, this down really well shared with close friends at the end of the night.

Connoisseur

Irish whiskey was once the most popular spirit in the world and has been massively on the rise in popularity in recent years. Ireland and Scotland both lay claim to being whisky’s original creator but it’s likely both nations developed a similar product at around the same time. The knowledge of distillation is commonly thought to have been brought to Ireland (and Scotland) by monks returning from the Mediterranean and the Middle East in around 1000AD.

DISTILLERY
Midleton Distillery

ABOUT THE DISTILLERY
Midleton is widely acknowledged as Irish whiskey’s spiritual home. In 1966, John Jameson, Powers, and the Cork Distillery Company formed Irish Distillers and in a bid to make sure their future was tenable, closed all their existing distilleries and merged into one site in Midleton, Cork. This was the only site big enough for expansion. Midleton is now one of the largest and most modern distilleries in the world boasting three 75,000 litre pot stills.
