Description

FULL DESCRIPTION
Not what we are used to seeing from the team at Talisker, the use of ruby port casks really brings out chocolaty notes, ripe red fruits and softens the peat and iodine. Not as big as the other expressions from Talisker, this seems to be them showing us a much softer side to their malt.

TASTING NOTES
Appearance: Red tinged mahogany.
Nose: Vanilla, ripe red fruits and a hint of smoke.
Taste: Spicy fudge, a slight touch of brine and sticky macerated citrus.
Finish: Raisins, burnt coffee and cacao.
Overall: A much more sweetly expression from Talisker with the maritime and earthy peated notes taking a backseat to sticky fruit and toffee.

Gift

An interesting malt for those people looking for something new and somewhat adventurous. Also, due to the subdued peat, the Port Ruighe becomes a lot more approachable and suitable for someone with a sweeter pallet.

RECOMMENDATIONS
If the person you’re buying for is a fan of the Talisker Port Ruighe, you could also try Balvenie Caribbean Cask or Glenmorangie Nectar D’or.

Connoisseur

The malt that comes from Talisker is unique. Medium peated, but with the added complexity of a water source that has run through peat itself. There’s a lot of reflux taking place in the tall stills and talisker also use a worm tub in cold water to condense. This results in a sulphury new make that adds weight to the whisky. Maturation is mostly in refill and rejuvenated casks.
