Description
FULL DESCRIPTION
One of the few remaining distilleries in Campbeltown, Springbank has been owned and operated by the Reid family since it first opened its doors in 1828. The 15-year-old is aged in its entirety in ex-sherry casks, making it a beast of a malt and sure to make the biggest sherry cask fans start wagging their tails.
TASTING NOTES
Appearance: Bright gold.
Nose: Sherry and raisins, oak and leathery tobacco.
Taste: light vanillas, chewy toffee and plenty of fresh red fruit.
Finish: Saltwater taffy, charred oak and deep cherry.
Overall: A sherry bomb through and through, but in a much different way than the usual Speyside style.
Gift
An obvious choice for any sherry cask ageing fanatic. This could also be a good whisky for Speyside fans who want to branch out to the opposite coast of Scotland.
RECOMMENDATIONS
If the person you’re buying for is a fan of the Springbank 15, you could also try Bunnahabhain 18, Talisker 18 or Highland Park 18.
Connoisseur
Springbank is the only Scottish distillery to control every step of the whisky making process, from malting the barley to bottling. Also known for a partial distillation technique, retaining the tails of the first distillation, distilling it again in an intermediate still that uses a wormwood condenser. This goes back into the fients receiver with the heads and tails of the spirit distillation.
