Description

FULL DESCRIPTION
Originally called ‘Cork Distilling Company Map of Ireland Old Irish Whiskey’, the name was changed in 1913 in honour of gregarious sales representative for Cork Distilleries Company, Paddy Flaherty. Paddy is triple distilled at the infamous Midleton distillery, with all three styles of Irish whiskey; single pot-still, single malt and grain. The relatively low proportion of pot-still contributes to Paddy’s soft character.

TASTING NOTES
Appearance: Lemon gold.
Nose: Floral honey notes with a toasted cereal character.
Taste: Honey, baked apples and almonds.
Finish: Thick, creamy butterscotch and oaky vanillas.
Overall: Mellow and easy drinking whisky.

Gift

Paddy is one of those easy drinking, accessible Irish whiskies that goes unnoticed (there’s a few, see Powers Gold). This whisky goes down well on its own or paired with your favourite mixer.

RECOMMENDATIONS
If the person you’re buying for is a fan of the Paddy Irish you could also try Powers Gold, Bushmills Original or Tullamore D.E.W.

Connoisseur

Irish whiskey was once the most popular spirit in the world and has been massively on the rise in popularity in recent years. Ireland and Scotland both lay claim to being whisky’s original creator but it’s likely both nations developed a similar product at around the same time. The knowledge of distillation is commonly thought to have been brought to Ireland (and Scotland) by monks returning from the Mediterranean and the Middle East in around 1000AD.

DISTILLERY
Midleton Distillery.

ABOUT THE DISTILLERY
Middleton is widely acknowledged as irish whiskey’s spiritual home. In 1966, John Jameson, Powers, and the Cork Distillery Company formed Irish Distillers and in a bid to make sure their future was tenable, closed all their existing distilleries and merged into one site in Middleton, Cork. This was the only site big enough for expansion. Middleton is now one of the largest and most modern distilleries in the world boasting three 75,000 litre pot stills.

ABOUT THE LIQUID
