Connoisseur
With the focus predominantly on wood management and ageing, Mitcher’s air dries staves for 18 to 36 months to remove tannins. The casks are then toasted before being charred to increase the sugars at the surface of the wood. Aged for between 5 to 8 years and often longer, Mitcher’s is made from a batch size of no more than 24 bottles.
DISTILLERY
Mitcher’s Shively Distillery.
ABOUT THE DISTILLERY
Michter’s originally was made in Pennsylvania at the oldest registered distillery in America. However turbulent times in the American whiskey world forced the brand to file for bankruptcy in 1989. The brand was revived in the 1990s by Joe Magliocco and Richard Newman. They began buying single casks from all over Kentucky and selling it under the Michter’s name and then began contract distilling at various distilleries around Kentucky to produce the Michter’s that we have today. The master distillers Willie Pratt and Pam Heilman have over 40 years of distilling knowledge after working at some of the biggest distilleries in the US. Currently, Michter’s is producing in Shively, just outside Louisville, Kentucky.
