Gift

This malt has probably converted more devout followers than Saint Andrew himself. Even if you hate heavily peated Islay whiskies you should get this, when you reach the end of the bottle you’ll be left wanting more. No brainer as a gift for any peat-head or Islay fan.

RECOMMENDATIONS
If the person you’re buying for is a fan of the Lagavulin 16 you could also try Talisker 18, Bowmore 15 or Highland Park 18.

Connoisseur

Lagavulin use very high stills coupled with slow distillation. They fill their 11,000 litre wash stills to 95% capacity, limiting the amount of copper contact the liquid has. The cut that is taken is larger than most, meaning more of the phenol heavy distillate is retained.

DISTILLERY
Lagavulin Distillery.

ABOUT THE DISTILLERY
The Lagavulin distillery is one of the three Kildalton distilleries located in the south of Islay, the others being Laphroaig and Ardbeg. Distilling is said to have started here in 1826 but illicit operations go as far back as 1742.
