Description

FULL DESCRIPTION
The Glenmorangie Quinta Ruban is another malt to join the distillery’s wide range of cask-finished expressions. Named bilingually, ‘Quinta’ being the estates in Portugal where port is produced and ‘Ruban’, which is Gaelic for ‘Ruby’.

TASTING NOTES
Appearance: Pink hued bronze
Nose: Sticky, macerating berries, jam and caramel.
Taste: Buttery, blueberry and apricot tarts, orange marmalade on wholegrain toast.
Finish: Dark cocoa, and hints of freshly ground coffee with some wine and oak tannins.
Overall: Lighter than the colour and nose will have you think, there is plenty of fruit and caramel but there is a bit of vibrancy, most likely due to the bump in ABV.

Gift

Glenmorangie’s range of cask-finishes are all very approachable, it’s a great option for someone who has recently really got into scotch. As in, they have tried a few expressions for the different regions and might want to start looking at how production and ageing methods can manipulate flavour.

RECOMMENDATIONS
If the person you’re buying for is a fan of the Glenmorangie Quinta Ruban, you could also try Starward, Arran Amarone or Macallan 12 Sherry Oak.

Connoisseur

Scotch whisky is a very broad category consisting of various styles, regions and production methods. It is unclear whether Ireland or Scotland was the first to produce whisky but it is likely that the practice became common in both countries concurrently. It is commonly thought that the knowledge of distillation was brought to Scotland (and Ireland) by monks returning from the Mediterranean and the Middle East in around 1000AD.
