Description
FULL DESCRIPTION
The Glenmorangie Nectar D’or joins the distillery’s wide range of cask-finished expressions. This whisky is aged in ex-bourbon barrels before being finished in ex-Sauternes casks and has been named appropriately ‘golden nectar’, after the sweet Bordeaux wine. Sweet, ripe orchard fruit shine in this digestif style malt.
TASTING NOTES
Appearance: Apricot.
Nose: Floral vanilla and musky grapes.
Taste: Lemon peels, apricot and nectarine tarte tatin.
Finish: Spicy, warm cinnamon and ginger with honey and raisins.
Overall: Summer fruit desserts, creamy and buttery yet light. Glenmorangie’s characters work very well with those from the Sauternes casks.
Gift
Glenmorangie’s range of cask-finishes are all very approachable, it’s a great option for someone who has recently really got into scotch. As in, they have tried a few expressions for the different regions and might want to start looking at how production and ageing methods can manipulate flavour.
RECOMMENDATIONS
If the person you’re buying for is a fan of the Glenmorangie Lasanta, you could also try Arran Amarone, Macallan 12 Sherry Oak or Auchentoshan Three Wood.
Connoisseur
Scotch whisky is a very broad category consisting of various styles, regions and production methods. It is unclear whether Ireland or Scotland was the first to produce whisky but it is likely that the practice became common in both countries concurrently. It is commonly thought that the knowledge of distillation was brought to Scotland (and Ireland) by monks returning from the Mediterranean and the Middle East in around 1000AD.
