Description

FULL DESCRIPTION
The Peat Monster is a multi-layered dram that combines smoky and peaty single malts from both Islay and the Isle of Mull with rich, medium-peated Highland Whisky. This results in a balanced blend of, highly drinkable peated Scotch whisky.

TASTING NOTES
Appearance: Pale straw.
Nose: Heaps of peat and smoke with maritime notes.
Taste: Lemon oils, honey dew melon and cured meats.
Finish: Brine and fatty fish followed unsurprisingly by more smoke.
Overall: It’s a monster, just like Sully from Monsters Inc is.

Gift

This whisky does what it claims on the box. It is drenched in smokey, peaty notes and if you are buying for someone who loves that style of whisky you can’t go wrong with Compass Box’s Peat Monster. Approach with caution, this isn’t a dram designed to be a crowd pleaser.

RECOMMENDATIONS
If the person you’re buying for is a fan of the Compass Box Peat Monster, you could also try Laphroaig 10, Port Charlotte or Ardbeg 10.

Connoisseur

Scotch whisky is a very broad category consisting of various styles, regions and production methods. It is unclear whether Ireland or Scotland was the first to produce whisky but it is likely that the practice became common in both countries concurrently. It is commonly thought that the knowledge of distillation was brought to Scotland (and Ireland) by monks returning from the Mediterranean and the Middle East in around 1000AD.

ABOUT THE LIQUID
Compass Box have created a bit of a storm by literally turning blended whisky on its head. Instead of a high grain to malt barley like you’d expect, Compass Box have a very high malt part. This is how the original blends would have been made.
