FULL DESCRIPTION
The Balvenie 14 Caribbean Cask is aged for 14 years in ex-bourbon barrels before being finished in American oak casks that have been seasoned with carefully selected rums from across the Caribbean. This malt is bursting with decadent caramels, tropical fruits and rich vanilla notes. The meeting of two different worlds, in a malt that is sure to please both rum and scotch lovers alike.
TASTING NOTES
Appearance: Burnished gold.
Nose: Fragrant vanillas, orange and molasses.
Taste: Rich caramels with tropical fruit notes of pineapple and banana.
Finish: A long finish of slightly burnt sugar.
Overall: Very rich and caramelly without being overly rich, retaining its delicacy and complex notes of fruit and spice.
Gift
Excellent choice for a whisky drinker who is also partial to a spot of rum, or vice versa. Being rum finished adds a lot of vanilla and sweetness to this dram, so anyone with a sweet tooth would be able to appreciate the Caribbean Cask. In saying that, traditional scotch drinkers shouldn’t be put off as there is nothing overpowering the traditional Speyside character of Balvenie.
RECOMMENDATIONS
If the person you’re buying for is a fan of The Balvenie Caribbean Cask, you could also try Auchentoshan Three Wood or La Hechicera.
Connoisseur
Thanks to natural alchemy and centuries-old craftsmanship, The Balvenie is unique among single malts. Their whisky-making process is dedicated to maintaining the ‘Five Rare Crafts’ and they are the only distillery in Scotland that still grows its own barley, uses traditional floor malting techniques, and, keeps both a coppersmith and a team of coopers on site. Finally, the Malt Master, David C. Stewart MBE presides over the all-important maturation process.
