Description

FULL DESCRIPTION
First released in 2002, the Auchentoshan Three Wood was met with high praise by the public and it quickly became a staple within Auchentoshan’s core range of whiskies. The name refers to the 3 different types of casks used when aging. The whisky starts off by spending time in ex-bourbon American oak barrels, before being transferred to ex-oloroso sherry casks and then finally into ex-pedro ximenez sherry casks. These result in a malt layered in different caramels and sweetness.

TASTING NOTES
Appearance: Dark amber
Nose: Honey and heather.
Taste: Candied orange and vanillas with light notes of autumn berries.
Finish: Browned butter and sugar lengthened by dark fruits and tobacco.
Overall: A layered malt full of different fruit and spice notes. The use of pedro ximenez barrels brings a thick, almost sticky mouth feel, which is brightened by light citrus and floral aspects.

Gift

Hard to go wrong with this one, definitely a safe choice for when you’re unsure of what to get someone. The Three Wood is also a bit of a cult classic, so chances are, if you’re buying for someone who knows their Scotch this will probably bring back fond memories.

It is unclear whether Ireland or Scotland was the first to produce whisky but it is likely that the practice became common in both countries concurrently.
