The Port Charlotte range from Bruichladdich introduces peat to give their characteristic floral elegance some more girth and chew, typical of the traditional Islay style. Peated to a modest level of 40ppm, like the Classic Laddie this malt is made from 100% Scottish barley. With the higher alcohol volume of 50%, don’t be afraid to add a touch of water to open the sweeter aromatics of this whisky.
TASTING NOTES
Appearance: Polished gold.
Nose: Blasts of iodine and sea salt with peat and vanillas.
Taste: Zesty lemon peels, toffee with warming smoky cinnamon.
Finish: Tobacco, salted candies and warming peat.
Overall: Like a stormy spring day at the seaside, wild, yet refreshing hints of the changing seasons.

Slightly higher in alcohol volume, this is still a very approachable malt, so fear not, as it could be a good way to get someone into peated styles once you’ve added a touch of water.

ABOUT THE DISTILLERY
Originally built in 1881 by three brothers, Bruichladdich would have been a modern distillery in comparison to the other farm distilleries on Islay. Bought by a group of private investors in 2000, the distillery was dismantled and rebuilt but retailed all the original victorian decor and machinery. There are no computers used for production and measurement is made by hand. The distillery was bought by Remy Cointreau in 2012. Terroir and provenance are at the forefront of BruichladdichŐs ethos, often feature the fields and farmers on the packaging. Traceability is paramount.
