Sharky

On Tuesday, TT Live Sessions welcomed Hampshire-born London-based artist Sharky as she invited us into her ‘People Are Strange’ world.

Long before becoming Sharky, Georgia Mason always loved sharks; “when I was small, I would sit in the pub and tell people all about them”

Sharky brings to life a world of colourful surrealism with ambiguous lyrics and a distinctive vocal styling. She draws on aspects of soul and jazz, touching on hip hop, and swirling them with indie and art rock essence.

With inspirations like Stevie Nicks and Gloria Gaynor, Sharky sings lyrics through a personal lens reflecting on playful and poignant themes with a sense of humour and openness to people, places, and different aspects of life.

Sharky’s debut LP ‘People Are Strange’ has been in a real delight to hear on the Cellar Bar playlist and anticipation was high to hear it live. All expectations were exceeded to the delight of a jam-packed Cellar Bar. The audience were treated to a warm introduction as Georgia signalled to keys player James they were good to go, starting the set off with Nights On My Mind and fading Into Tooty.

The slick production throughout People Are Strange really came to life with the live performance and Sharky’s playfulness shone through the vocals and subject matter.Georgia kept the energy light between tracks, with poised presence and a couple of jokes thrown in for good measure. The pair finished their set on a high with an enchanting rendition of Concret.

Sharky’s most recent album People Are Strange featuring the aforementioned Tooty, Concret and title track, People Are Strange Released on Tru Thoughts is available to stream now.

  • Our music philosophy, in one word, is “SOULFUL.” It’s a journey through Disco, Soul, Hip-Hop, Funk and everything in between coming in two forms; intimate, stripped-back live sessions, featuring new performers on the first Tuesday of every month, and resident DJs and guest headliners taking care of the soundtrack throughout the building the rest of the time.

All our music programming is curated by head of music Chris P Cuts.
