Review: Volcom 'Shoot Rainbows' Launch Party w/ Ozzy Wrong
TT Liquor was turned into a multi-faceted art installation for the day last week, as we welcomed the guys from Volcom to our Shoreditch home.
The occasion was the launch of Volcom’s new ‘ Ozzie Shoot Rainbows’ clothing line, inspired by the eclectic artwork of the multi-talented Ozzy Wrong.
The Australian is a surfer by trade, but he’s also proven himself a dab hand with the paintbrush, film camera, and guitar – and is known the world over for his surfing innovation and punk rock style.
He clearly bought some of that stick-it-to-the-man, anti-bad vibe attitude to the clothing on display – with many of the pieces emblazoned with the catchy slogan ‘Shoot Rainbows Into Fascism’.
Our attendees got an immersive taste of this style across the building, as large sewn murals of his were laid out gallery-style in our West Wing space for them to admire – sporting everything from edgy phrases such as ‘Fuck Computers’ and Sewing Machines Rule’, to colourful large-scale depictions of alien romance.
Alongside this, in the Aviation Room, we provided our trademark rolling masterclasses to entertain guests as they explored the building.
Each session lasted around 20 minutes, and attendees got the chance to build two themed cocktails – adorned with rainbow laces and other playfully garish garnishes – designed by our mixologists especially for the occasion.
Soundtracking the night early on was one of Volcom’s resident DJs – bringing the rock ‘n’ roll, grunge, and punk rock vibes over to Shoreditch.
Following this, we were all treated to a live set by Dutch alternative three-piece MOOON – who were playing on these shores for the very first time – and they certainly set the stage alight with their feel-good hits.
On top of all this, we put on a few of Ozzie’s legendary surf movies down in our independent cinema space, and even an ‘Expression Wall’ set up in our Cutting Room – a huge marker board replete with permanent markers for everyone and anyone to get creative themselves. Fair to say the results were hilarious.
All in all, a fantastic evening and we’re pleased our guests seemed to enjoy themselves as much as they did.
A big thank you to the guys at Volcom, MOOON, our attendees, staff, and everyone else who came together to make the event such a success.
All of us at TT are looking forward to collaborations to come. ‘Til next time.
