Between them, these two have an impressive back catalogue, Sonnyjim working recently with Da$H and Kev Brown and The Purist heading up his own label, Daupe! and conjuring up beats for new-school greats like Freddie Gibbs, Action Bronson and Danny Brown. Together they form White Girl Wasted, a collaborative project that has been cooking since late 2018.

For November’s extra special event, White Girl Wasted premiered the video for lead single Barz Simpson in our cinema then headed downstairs into the Cellar Bar for a live set. Barz Simpson features Jay Electronica and a posthumous verse from the late, legendary MF DOOM and we couldn’t wait to see what visuals they had dreamt up.

We weren’t disappointed, the video for ‘Barz Simpson’ directed, shot and edited by ABOVEGROUND, played like a short film, complete with gritty, Mike Leigh style cinematography and starring a doom-masked Leigh Gill (The Joker, Game Of Thrones). Guests for the video premiere were also treated to gourmet green-themed hors d’oeuvres courtesy of chef and forager Sam Greensmith including venison with cognac and rye and caramel ‘weed leaf’ cookies.

With some of UK hip hop’s biggest names in the building, energy was high and following the video premiere and canape reception, everyone moved down to the Cellar Bar for White Girl Wasted’s live performance.

Kosyne DJed for the live set and Sonny had the Cellar Bar alight with energy running through the White Girl Wasted album.

This was one of our best Live Sessions to date and a really great way to see off this series of events for 2022.
