Benny Morrell
Anticipation built in the Cellar Bar as the beginning of March’s TT Live Session drew nearer. Guests began taking their seats and holding spaces for their friends in the compact back area of the Cellar Bar, drinks in hand, eagerly awaiting the evening’s performance from Melbourne born rapper, Benny Morrell.
Benny and his team were nearing the end of a whirlwind promo tour of London for the week preceding his TT Live Session, visiting every radio station, studio and connection they could across the capital. This was Benny’s first visit to London and it was easy to see that the allure of the city had quickly taken hold.
The week of promo had clearly worked as the room was packed with a who’s who of London’s music and street culture circles.
The DJ triggered the first track and Benny took to the floor immediately capturing the audience’s attention. Joking between tracks, Benny Morrell seemed entirely at ease guiding the room through the many facets of his artistry.
Benny Morrell treated the crowd to a set filled with tracks many were hearing for the first time; beats invoking a blend of catchy pop melodies and boom-bap hip hop rhythms accompanied Benny’s razor sharp delivery of witty lyrics tackling self-reflective subjects with a careful balance of maturity and playfulness.
Even to those unfamiliar with his work, it was clear that Benny certainly has some hits under his belt and he finished his set with his latest yet to be released song Batshit Crazy, which quickly had the whole crowd jumping and reciting the hook. Benny and his team created an electric atmosphere and by the end of the night a bunch of new fans were born. Hopefully when Benny Morrell is back in London he’ll hit up TT Liquor again, if he’s not already a worldwide name by then, either way, his come-up is going to be exciting to watch!

All our music programming is curated by head of music Chris P Cuts.
