Joshua Idehen
TT Live Sessions took a hiatus in April 2022 but came back strong in May with a performance from British-Nigerian jazz musician, poet and founder of acclaimed music and poetry publication Poejazzi, Joshua Idehen.
After years of collaborating as a songwriter and musician for bands and artists like Dan Le Sac, LV and Sons Of Kemet as well as featuring in his own ensembles, Benin City and HUGH, in early 2022, Joshua Idehen released his debut solo single Don’t You Give Up On Me to immediate critical praise.
Idehen’s presence is commanding, standing well over six feet and with a radiant air of confidence and wisdom. A true force of an artist, he quickly showed how he’s able to take control of any space; not quite satisfied with the Cellar Bar crowd’s initial response to his entrance, he sat back down and did it again. The second time over, the audience caught on, realising this was a performance that would demand their full attention and a performer who wasn’t afraid to joke around with them.
Rising almost too tall for the room, Joshua Idehen squeezed between the rafters towering over his trusty SP404 and triggered tracks, samples and fx, lacing pieces together with verses of thoughtful, rhythmic and humorous poetry.
The effortless interplay of voice, word play, rhyme patterns and musicality were delivered with a careful attention to detail, grabbing the attention of the audience and holding it firm for the length of his performance.

Idehen is a true professional with years of experience performing and playing and it shows. New tracks like I Got You Every Step Of The Way and the aforementioned Don’t You Give Up On Me came across beautifully in the intimate Cellar Bar space with an already classic, timeless quality.
TT Liquor were incredibly lucky to play host to Idehen between busy European tour dates and hope to welcome him back again in the near future.
Don’t You Give Up On Me and I Got You Every Step Of The Way are both available to stream as part of the Learn to Swim mixtape, so go have a listen, we promise you won’t be disappointed.

Our music philosophy, in one word, is “SOULFUL.” It’s a journey through Disco, Soul, Hip-Hop, Funk and everything in between coming in two forms; intimate, stripped-back live sessions, featuring new performers on the first Tuesday of every month, and resident DJs and guest headliners taking care of the soundtrack throughout the building the rest of the time.
All our music programming is curated by head of music Chris P Cuts.
