Review: The Macallan Shopfront Takeover
By TATTON & THOMPSON
The Macallan distillery made the journey from Craigellachie down to Shoreditch, taking over our specialist liquor store shopfront on Kingsland Road for the entire month of November.
Intended to be a celebration of the drop of their new 12-year whisky trilogy, the guys from the Macallan set up a striking shop front display, featuring a beautiful wooden triangular structure.
Jonny Shields, Shoreditch brand ambassador for the Macallan, explains the concept behind it:
“The main idea with the shop front was to do something bigger. Something that catches the eye a bit. The whole triangle design was related to the trilogy that has just come back with three different 12 year olds, and the distinctions between them are reflected in the differences in the wood and stuff like that. So it kind of fit the idea in that there’s this big wooden display in the window, and the triangles fit into the whole trilogy theme and I think it came out pretty well to be fair!”
Not simply limited to the visual, there were plenty of free tastings on the go too – every Wednesday and Friday from 5pm-7pm in our bottle shop – so guests can be guided through the finer points of the Scotch whisky distillation process by Macallan’s seasoned experts.
Now that their stint is at an end, we would like to say a big thank you to everyone who came down for an educational post-grindstone drink, and to the guys at the Macallan for giving our shopfront that extra bit of class for the month.
We hope to see you all again soon!
