Review: Taste of Black History

As part of our new range of dining experiences, last Sunday TT Liquor welcomed Michelin trained and award-winning chef, Anthony Cumberbatch to our multi-faceted studios for Taste of Black History.

The event rounded off Black History Month in delicious fashion. Anthony utilised his 28 years of culinary experience to put together a unique lunchtime dining experience for his guests that was a true celebration of African & Caribbean cuisine.

Attendees were greeted at the entrance to our specialist Liquor Store on Kingsland Road, where they could enjoy a complimentary bespoke beverage created by our discerning bartenders.

They were then led upstairs to the West Wing, which had been transformed for the afternoon into a communal banqueting table.

Anthony’s innovative approach of blending the old with the new and thinking ‘outside-of-the-box’ was the inspiration behind this culinary journey, and so traditional ingredients and dishes were served with an innovative and modern twist.

Attendees were treated to a 5-course feast of refined African and Caribbean classics, including Jerk Chicken, Yam Fufu, South African Lamb Sosaties and Ghanaian Wild Salmon.

Following closely behind the food, there was a post-banquet symposium during which special guest Ansel Wong addressed the guests.

Ansel, who introduced black history month to our school curriculum more than 30 years ago and has been an integral member of the black British community for even longer, gave a brief talk about the progress of cultural understanding and interracial dialogue over the years.

There was live acoustic music as well as a beautiful spoken word rendition by Arielle John to round off a successful afternoon of cuisine, culture and cocktails.

In terms of the growth of pop-up fine dining Shoreditch is an area that is at the forefront. We hope this continues and that TT can be involved in more events like this in the future.
